Amidst the Cuban Missile crisis and her parents' strained marriage, Iris attributes the troubles to the death of her goldfish, Amahl. Discovering a near-drowned man, Mr. Lawrence, on the beach, she becomes convinced he is Amahl reincarnated. In her quest to reunite her fractured family, Iris brings Mr. Lawrence home, creating a surreal and humorous exploration of a dysfunctional family's dynamics.
